My Nostalgia

This summer i was introduced to www.ORKUT.com.....
Meeting friends of all kinds, over the internet nonetheless, suddenly made me reminise about my school, my Alma mater.
I googled the words alma mater and came up with the term 'nourishing mother' which i guess could apply to schools, but i have only attended one school.....Apeejay.

I passed out of Apeejay School, Nerul in June 2003, after completing all the education that this school could offer.

My parents decided to move to Nerul in 1989, a little known town then, because it had a school with CBSE syllabus....it was a spontaneous decision on thier part coz we were dirt poor and the schools fees were steep, but for my benifit, my education...they moved.
I was admitted in the school long before we even had a place to live in Nerul. Fortunately it all fell into place and a house deal came through and my parents and i settled in this quaint little town. For the reader's benifit i'm gonna limit this post by describing my last year at Apeejay.

I would like to begin with one of Charles Dickens' most famous qoutes, which i always think of when i remember my school days....

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all doing direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only. "

I was in 12th std...the newbies who had joined the school after 10th had now settled in and the old Apeejay crowd had gotten used to the reshuffeling of three divs in to one single class. The teachers coaxed us to study as our futures depended on the board exam results(lies....all lies).

The academic year of 2002-2003, was THE best year of my school life....
Whenever i think about that glorious period....i feel fuckin high, i mean...those were the good times, memories which will stay with me all my life.

The rivalries between Computer and Biology students...
"Haan tu Bio ley!"

Reena Pal's (chem teacher) incoherent ramblings....
"What thees boy will sit and talk in my class...."

I specifically remember Banumati ma'ams comp-sci lectures...as she so deligently tried to teach amidst the connundrum.
" Whether the pointer will point to this value????....essssss or NO?"

The math teacher's daily outbursts...
"Rowdies!!! If you dont want to study then get out of my class"

I think the favorite time for computer students was the pracs when we used to go to the worlds smallest computer lab(it was a corridor which was blocked from both sides to make a room) and play Unreal Tournament despite ma'am's warnings that she'll tell the principal(she never did)
"Saale! Tereko Rocket Launcher kaahan se mila bey...."

The principal's math lecture was sort of our weekly tolerance tester....the guy was hilarious with his heavy punjabi accent and in the way he rounded his r's and yeah he always used to wear a white glove in his right hand....
"Baccha whaaat arre you doin!!....i've told u this thirdeeen times aaalready"

And then there were the classroom cricket matches..Bio vs Comps...no holds barred where we used a plank as the bat....oh man that was the best.
At one point of time people started comin to school half an hour early just to get a few overs in.

There are a million things i could illustrate...that made the academic year of 2002-03 the best fuckin year of my school life.....but i guess this much is enough for now.I'm bored of typing anyways.....
All this nostalgia was brought to you by Orkut whats-his-name......thank you, you lucky S.O.B, you rich bastard for enriching my life with this site and helping me to remember the best days of my school life.

ps. stay tuned for My Awesome Semester

My Super Hero

The lights dim...the god-knows-how-many watts sound system fires up and then it appears....
The pentagon with a big red 'S' inside it
I have goose pimples that wont go away, as i sit there culminating the seemingly endless wait for what is touted to be the blockbuster of the year 2006.
Superman Returns....

The purpose of the post, alas is not to discuss the plot of the the film ( which i must say...is brilliant) , but to elaborate the aptly titled post.

Observe any kid...and u will notice that they always look for a superhero....
this pursuit leads them to thier fathers, elder brothers and most oftenly to fictional characters they see on tv or read about in comics.

But, the concept and ideology of a "superhero" , atleast to me is truly satisfied only by Superman.

This fact...as i'd like to believe was affirmed after i saw the Q Tarantino films Kill Bill Vol 1&2.
Towards the climax...Bill(David Carradine), explains about his fascination with Superman to a helpless Beatrix(Uma Thurman).

He says, and i quote
"Not a great comic book, not particularly well drawn...but the mythology is not only great but unique"
"The staple of the superhero mythology, is that theres the Superhero and then theres the alter ego ; Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spiderman is actually Peter Parker.
When that character wakes up in the morning, he's peter parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spiderman.
And it is in that characteristic...Superman stands alone."

"Superman didn't become Superman, Superman was born Superman."

"When Superman wakes up inthe morning he is Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red S, thats the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him...those are his clothes."

"What Kent wears, the glasses, the business suit - thats the costume Superman wears to blend in with us."

Adding to the above lines....
Other Super heroes always have an ulterior motive behind there actions- Spiderman feels the guilt of the death of his uncle, Batman sees his parents' killer in every criminal etc.

Here in also lies Supermans uniqueness.
Superman was sent here to protect us...his father Jor-El, a scientist on the planet Krypton sent him here to be our savior. It was what he was meant to do all his life.
Superman doesnt choose good over evil...

My First Post

I have been staring at this screen for the past hour or so...trying to write something sensible, something hard hitting, a literary gem...if you will.

But as i sit here, trying to break this mind numbing, spirit crushing monotony...i find that there is nothing....

I dont mean this in any grave metaphorical or philosophical way...i ACTUALLY mean NOTHING.

Its 12.30 AM and i have a night of boredom and eerie silence ahead of me....forget about this blog, i absolutely have no idea what to do.

hmmmm.....

I guess i could write about my life, experiences, highs, lows, current crushes, favorites et cetera et cetera....i could do a lot of things

but i'm gonna do nothing....
why???....because its my blog thats why
